Speculation surrounding the potential use of performance-enhancing drugs by golf legend Tiger Woods has resurfaced once again, reigniting a debate that has lingered for years within the golf community.

During an interview with OutKick’s “Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich,” former PGA Tour star Mark Lye revisited the rumors, shedding light on the pervasive belief among some in the golfing world. Dakich posed the question, querying whether there was a prevalent sentiment among those familiar with the sport that Woods may have utilized steroids in the past to bolster his performance on the course.

Lye’s response was unequivocal. “Yes, that is. It is except for the people in Tiger’s corner. ‘You better shut up about it.’ Nobody ever gone out like that,” Lye remarked candidly. “Nobody’s ever said that like I’m saying it right now. There’s just no doubt. And I would say about 80 or 90% of the people out there know something ain’t right.”

Although Lye refrained from delving into specific instances, rumors linking Woods to performance-enhancing substances have periodically surfaced over the years.

One notable mention came in the 2014 book “Blood Sport: Alex Rodriguez, Biogenesis and the Quest to End Baseball’s Steroid Era,” which detailed Woods’ association with controversial Canadian doctor Anthony Galea. Despite this, Woods’ former swing coach, Hank Haney, emphasized to Golf Digest that he never witnessed any behavior indicative of performance-enhancing drug use from Woods.

In a separate incident in July 2015, former PGA Tour player Dan Olsen made headlines by asserting, without concrete evidence, that Woods had been covertly suspended from the organization for failing a drug test. Both Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, and the PGA Tour swiftly refuted Olsen’s claims, with Steinberg categorically dismissing them as “absolutely, unequivocally and completely false.” Olsen later retracted his statement.

Following Lye’s recent remarks, neither Woods’ agent nor the PGA Tour responded immediately to requests for comment.

Woods’ performance at the recent Masters tournament in Augusta did little to quell the ongoing speculation, as he finished 16-over par, marking one of the most lackluster showings of his illustrious career.
