“I wouldn’t say it’s meant to send a message,” McIlroy stated firmly. “It’s more that we wanted to create an event that all golf fans could be excited about. We’ve got the best player in the world in Scottie Scheffler, and we’ve got two players from LIV Golf in Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, who have both won majors in the last two years. While I haven’t achieved what those guys have recently, I believe I’ve been one of the top players in the world.”
