Tiger Woods has managed to outshine Donald Trump as he made……
Donald Trump surely anticipated dominating the Sunday golfing headlines when he unexpectedly appeared on the final day of the LIV Golf tournament at his Doral course in Miami. However, Tiger Woods stole the spotlight upon arriving at Augusta National.
While the former President was seen shaking hands with his LIV buddies like Bubba Watson and Bryson DeChambeau, Woods made his way to the tournament that epitomizes his legacy more than any other.
With no fans permitted, which suits Woods unlike Trump, he began practicing on the course that defines his legend like no other.
Woods was last seen at The Masters during last year’s third round, where he withdrew after seven holes due to a procedure fusing the bones in his right ankle.
Many speculated, including Sir Nick Faldo, if that would be Woods’ last round in the Masters and competitive golf altogether. Faldo even suggested Woods consider retirement given his physical struggles.
Yet, here Woods is, a year later, having only completed one round of official tournament golf since then, seemingly ready to compete and face the inquiries that will undoubtedly come his way.
In December, Woods made a ‘soft’ return at one of his foundation’s tournaments, finishing 18th out of 20. His official return was at the Genesis Invitational in February, where he withdrew during the second round due to illness.
Skipping The Players last month without explanation raised questions about his health. Although he has been involved in negotiations for a peace deal in golf, his absence from competition since recovering from illness in LA prompts speculation about his current physical condition.
While some cynics suggest Woods’ presence at The Masters is merely a marketing ploy tied to his recent clothing sponsorship deal with TaylorMade, his desire to compete cannot be doubted.
Despite his injuries and setbacks, Woods has defied odds before, notably winning his fifth green jacket five years ago after enduring back issues and multiple surgeries.
While Rory McIlroy’s performance at the Texas Open provided a confidence boost as he prepares for another shot at completing the career grand slam, the focus remains on Woods as he returns to the grand stage of golf.
