Justin Rose Predicts Rory McIlroy’s Success at The Open – “It Wouldn’t Surprise Me”
Justin Rose is backing Rory McIlroy to silence his critics and clinch victory at the upcoming 152nd Open Championship, despite his near miss at the US Open last month.
McIlroy, who faced scrutiny following his narrow loss at Pinehurst, is seen by Rose as someone who thrives under pressure. Rose, a fellow Ryder Cup teammate, believes that criticism often fuels McIlroy’s best performances on the course.
“He’s got that fire in his belly now,” Rose commented. “With Rory, I’ve always noticed that when people doubt him or he faces criticism, that’s when he tends to produce some of his finest golf. He’s proven it before, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him excel.”
Reflecting on past tournaments, Rose drew parallels to Phil Mickelson’s resilience after a tough US Open defeat in 2013. Mickelson rebounded to secure The Open title just a month later at Muirfield, showcasing the ability of top players to bounce back swiftly.
“It was impressive how Phil turned it around,” Rose noted. “Winning The Open right after a challenging loss at Merion must have been a huge boost for him.”
McIlroy, aiming for his fifth Major title, faces stiff competition from other contenders like Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, PGA champion Xander Schauffele, and US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau.
