“Eddie Hearn Confirms Anthony Joshua’s Next Fight; Vows Heavyweight World Title Defense”

Eddie Hearn is optimistic about Anthony Joshua’s next bout, foreseeing a shot at the world heavyweight title. Joshua’s recent string of victories, including a swift triumph over Francis Ngannou, has propelled him back into contention. As his domestic rivals Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk gear up for a showdown in Saudi Arabia on May 18, Joshua will be closely observing.

Saudi Minister for Entertainment, Turki Alalshikh, has expressed a desire for the winner to face Joshua. However, with Fury and Usyk committing to a two-fight deal, a rematch is inevitable regardless of the outcome. Yet, the IBF belt might not be on the line due to mandatory challenger obligations.

Should Fury vacate the belt, the IBF’s top contender, Filip Hrgovic, could challenge Joshua for the title. Despite hopes for a compromise leading to a Joshua vs. Fury or Usyk showdown, Matchroom Boxing CEO Hearn anticipates the next fight for Joshua will be for the heavyweight championship.

Hearn stated, “I expect him to return later in the summer. He’s eager to get back in the ring. With Fury vs. Usyk set for May 18 and the IBF situation with Hrgovic, we’re keenly watching developments. But Joshua’s next bout will likely involve the heavyweight title or the undisputed title.”

He added, “The winner of Fury vs. Usyk must face Hrgovic, no exceptions. If the IBF becomes vacant, Joshua’s next fight could secure him the heavyweight world championship.”
