Tiger Woods’ recent appearance at the US Junior Amateur to support his son Charlie left fans concerned as they witnessed, for the first time, the full extent of his injuries from his near-fatal car crash.

 

On Monday, Woods was seen cheering for Charlie, who scored a round of 82 at Oakland Hills, finishing 12 over par. While Woods seemed to enjoy the event after announcing a five-month break from the sport, the visible damage to his legs stole the spotlight.

That fateful morning around 7 a.m., Woods’ SUV veered off the road, collided with a tree, and flipped several times. It is believed that he was driving at 85 mph. Firefighters and paramedics had to extricate Woods from the wreckage before rushing him to the hospital for immediate medical attention. LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva later stated that the primary cause of the crash was excessive speed and an inability to negotiate a curve in the road.

 

Despite the severity of his injuries, Woods’ resilience amazed fans as he transitioned from a wheelchair to crutches, eventually returning to swing a golf club at a professional level. At 48, he continues to battle pain to stay in the game, with his scars serving as a testament to his surgical struggles.

 

Woods’ career appears to be winding down, having missed the cut in three out of four majors this season, only making a mark at the Masters where he finished 60th. Nowadays, he is often seen on the sidelines, supporting Charlie, though tournament rules prevent him from coaching during matches.

“His speed has gone dramatically up this year,” Tiger commented toward the end of 2023. “He’s hitting it past me now. I enjoy caddying for him and being there with him, just to talk through shots and help him understand what I would see or the thought process I would have. He would bounce things off of me, and I would give him my take on certain things.”
