Tiger Woods was surrounded by his family as he accepted the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor from the USGA, on Tuesday night ahead of the US Open. This prestigious accolade recognizes commitment to sportsmanship and respect for golf’s traditions.

In a touching ceremony at Pinehurst, North Carolina, the 15-time major winner was joined by his 80-year-old mother Kultida, 16-year-old daughter Sam, and 15-year-old son Charlie.

Woods opened his speech with a humorous note, quoting his son Charlie: “Charlie just said to not let my head get too big.” He reflected on the honor of receiving an award named after Bobby Jones, the greatest amateur golfer in history, and highlighted the attributes Jones exemplified in the game of golf.

One of the most moving moments of the evening came when Woods paid tribute to his mother, who was visibly emotional in the audience. Recalling the 1994 US Amateur Championship, Woods shared how his mother’s presence at the event motivated him to win.

“Mom never came to any of my juniors or amateurs, but she was there wearing a Stanford sweatshirt at Pumpkin Ridge,” he reminisced. “When I made that winning putt, who was the first person I hugged? Right, Mommy, it was you.”

Woods emphasized his mother’s unwavering support throughout his life and career. “My mom doesn’t get enough credit. Everyone thought it was me and dad on the road, but mom was at home. She has been my rock through thick and thin. This award I accept in humbleness and unbelievable regard for the past recipients, but I also accept it from my mommy too.”

After exiting the stage, Woods embraced his mother and daughter Sam, while son Charlie applauded. Kultida, married to Woods’ father Earl for 37 years until his death in 2006, has been a cornerstone in his life.

Woods, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2022 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019, is no stranger to honors. His illustrious career includes 15 majors and 82 PGA Tour victories. He is also a nine-time USGA champion and has made significant contributions off the course through his TGR Foundation and golf course design firm.
