After his triumphant return to the Barcelona court, Rafael Nadal has dismissed Stefanos Tsitsipas’ remarks, labeling them as ‘nonsense.’ Nadal secured a convincing victory over Flavio Cobolli, marking his comeback to clay after nearly two years.
Despite his commanding performance, Nadal rebuffed any claims of being a favorite for the title. Addressing Tsitsipas’ comments, Nadal stated, “It’s nonsense. He knows that’s not the case.”
Nadal acknowledged the respect he commands at the Barcelona Open but emphasized that he no longer sees himself as a frontrunner for tournament victories. “Everyone knows that I am no longer a favorite to aspire to win a tournament,” Nadal asserted.
Looking ahead to his upcoming match against Alex de Minaur, Nadal remained grounded, acknowledging the challenge ahead. “I know that tomorrow I am not a favorite, but it doesn’t matter either. These are things for you [the media],” Nadal remarked.
Tsitsipas, who recently clinched the Monte-Carlo Masters, had previously suggested that Nadal was the favorite for the Barcelona championship. However, Nadal brushed off the pressure, focusing on his performance on the court.
