Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s golf league, TGL, slated for debut in January 2025, has secured its first trio of international media partners. TMRW Sports, the brainchild of Woods and McIlroy, announced that Australia’s FOX Sports, U-NEXT in Japan, and South Korea’s JTBC/Phoenix Sports International will broadcast the league in their respective markets. These networks, also PGA Tour rights holders, will offer cohesive promotional platforms once the competition kicks off.

CEO and Founder of TMRW Sports, Mike McCarley, emphasized the global nature of golf and TGL’s aim to expand its footprint. The league’s initial focus lies in striking media rights partnerships in key golf markets such as Australia, Japan, and South Korea. The enthusiasm from these partners reflects the momentum building in other markets worldwide.

FOX Sports Australia will deliver TGL coverage live or on demand via its Foxtel and Kayo platforms, enhancing its existing golf lineup that includes prestigious events like the US Open, PGA Championship, The Open, and the Ryder Cup. Meanwhile, JTBC GOLF Channel in South Korea, a trusted name in golf coverage, will also showcase TGL alongside the major tournaments.

In the US, ESPN will serve as the broadcaster for TGL, offering viewers an alternative to traditional golf coverage. The league, featuring six teams of three PGA Tour players competing on a virtual 18-hole course, will culminate in semi-finals and a final after a 15-game regular season.

Since its inception in 2022, TGL has attracted significant interest, with notable investors like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Lewis Hamilton, Shaquille O’Neal, Serena Williams, and others joining Woods and McIlroy in backing the venture.

Nexus Luxury Collection, as shareholders, revealed plans in October 2023 to launch their second T-Squared Social venture in a university town, following their success in New York. The venture involves transforming the 94-year-old New Picture House into a premium sports and entertainment facility.

 

Despite community objections with over 12,300 signatures on an online petition, both the developers and the cinema owners are pushing forward with their plans.

In response to the community feedback, T-Squared Social and New Picture House have unveiled new visuals and a website showcasing “new, enhanced proposals.” The main auditorium and two out of three screens will be retained, with improvements planned for Cinema 3’s seating and technology.

 

Cinema 2 will feature comfortable seating groupings for socializing, along with an area for electronic darts. The main cinema, Cinema 1, will remain a multi-functional space, showing films alongside sports simulators like golf and rugby. Flexible seating arrangements will accommodate various activities, with dimmed lights and paused activities during movie screenings.

 

The character of the auditorium will be preserved, with existing features such as the ceiling, walls, and stage retained. The upper level of the cinema will also remain unchanged, with over 300 seats retained for cinema-goers.

 

The exterior of the building, including the name, will remain untouched, with renovations limited to the interior. T-Squared Social aims to invest significantly in the town, creating job opportunities and preserving the cinema legacy.

 

David Morris, the Managing Director for New Picture House, will oversee the transition to the new venture, emphasizing the necessity of change due to the cinema’s low occupancy rate.

 

MP Wendy Chamberlain encouraged community members to review the proposed plans outlined on T-Squared Social’s website and video. The website offers answers to frequently asked questions and invites further inquiries.

 

A planning application is set to be submitted to Fife Council, with T-Squared Social aiming for a Spring 2025 opening for the New Picture House venture.
