Their strained relationship seemed confirmed when Woods reportedly ignored a birthday greeting from DeChambeau. Yet, recent developments hint at a reconciliation. According to Sports Illustrated’s Bob Harig, Woods reached out to congratulate DeChambeau on his recent US Open victory, marking their first interaction in a considerable period.

 

“This is our first communication in a while,” DeChambeau commented ahead of The Open Championship. “But he’s a competitor, and I have immense respect for him.”

 

Reflecting on Woods’ message, DeChambeau added, “Winning two US Opens probably made it easier for him to extend congratulations. I don’t know his exact stance, but it was a kind gesture, and I appreciated it.”

 

In addition to Woods, Rory McIlroy also congratulated DeChambeau on his US Open success. McIlroy, who had a heartbreaking finish that handed DeChambeau the title, left Pinehurst abruptly, bypassing the customary handshake and media interactions.

 

DeChambeau recounted, “I greeted Rory and we had a chat. He congratulated me, so all’s good between us. He’s a tough competitor.”
