Tiger Woods Sets Sights on Masters Record
Tiger Woods, the iconic figure in golf, is poised to make his 26th appearance at The Masters, commencing from April 11 at the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club. However, uncertainties loom over his participation due to his persistent health issues.
If Woods manages to compete, he could potentially break the Masters record by securing his 24th consecutive cut, surpassing Gary Player and Fred Couples. Last year, he had to withdraw due to plantar fasciitis and underwent surgery for an arthritic ankle issue stemming from a car crash in 2021.
Since then, Woods has participated in only one PGA Tour event, the Genesis Invitational, where he withdrew due to illness after just 24 holes. Notah Begay III, a close friend of Woods, revealed that Tiger is not in optimal physical condition, citing mobility issues in his left ankle and ongoing back problems.
Despite these challenges, Woods appeared upbeat during a practice round with Will Zalatoris. Zalatoris, who has been on his own comeback journey following back surgery, praised Woods’ performance, highlighting his impressive swing and occasional long drives.
Their preparation included the customary tradition of attempting to skip golf balls across the water at the par-3 16th hole. Should Woods make history by securing the most cuts at The Masters and contend for victory, he could potentially become the oldest champion at Augusta, following in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus.
