Charlie Woods recently celebrated a significant milestone in his young golfing career, clinching the high school state championship alongside his teammates from The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida. The victory, marked by the gleaming championship ring adorning his finger, filled Charlie with pride as he stood alongside his teammates, affectionately dubbed ‘the Bucs’, reveling in their collective success.
The tournament, hosted at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida, witnessed Charlie’s impressive display of skill with rounds of 78 and 76 over two days. Despite being the fourth-best player on the five-man squad, Charlie’s contribution was pivotal in securing the FHSAA Class A boys golf state championship, finishing T-26 overall.
Adding to the significance of the triumph was the presence of Charlie’s father, Tiger Woods, who passionately cheered on his son throughout the tournament. This moment held special meaning for Charlie, as it differed from Tiger’s own high school golf experience. While attending Western High School in Anaheim, California, Tiger never had the chance to compete for a state championship due to the absence of such events in the California Interscholastic Federation during his era.
Nevertheless, Tiger’s golfing prowess was evident in other arenas, including his victories in the CIF’s SoCal Regional in 1991 and his consecutive titles as Southern Section medalist in 1991, 1993, and 1994. Additionally, Tiger etched his name in history as the youngest golfer to clinch the US Junior Amateur title in 1991.
With Charlie following in his father’s illustrious footsteps and making waves in the golfing world from a young age, it’s clear that the Woods family legacy in the sport is set to endure for generations to come.
