Security Confronts Tiger Woods Outside Players’ Locker Room at The Open: “Who Are You?”

PGA Tour professional Michael Kim recently shared an amusing anecdote involving Tiger Woods and a security guard during an Open Championship, showcasing a memorable moment when the legendary golfer had to flex his fame.

 

Kim took to X on July 16 to recount this tale, just three days before the 152nd Open at Royal Troon begins. Though he did not specify the exact year, the 31-year-old golfer mentioned it happened “during the mid-2000s,” a period when Woods was at the peak of his career.

 

Woods, who has captured three Open Championships, the last being in 2006 at Royal Liverpool, had forgotten his credentials while trying to enter the players’ locker room. A security guard, unaware of who he was, stopped him, leading to an incredible exchange.

 

“At the Open Championship, players get a clip as credentials to get you into the locker room and everywhere else,” Kim wrote. “Mid 2000s, Tiger forgot his clip one day, and he was walking into the locker room when the security person stopped him asking for his credentials lol. Tiger looks around, sees a massive billboard with his name and face on it, points to it, says that’s my credentials and walked into the locker room.”

 

Woods, now 48, is playing in his 23rd Open Championship. His private jet landed in Scotland last Sunday, and in his pre-tournament news conference, Woods revealed he had not slept. His sleepless night was attributed to the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump.

 

“I didn’t accomplish a lot because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” Woods said. “It was a long night and that’s all we watched the entire time on the way over here. I didn’t sleep at all on the flight, and then we just got on the golf course.”

 

In addition to this revelation, Woods responded to recent comments from Colin Montgomerie, who had suggested that he retire. Woods jabbed back, stating he still has a chance to win this week, a sentiment he remains adamant about.

 

The 15-time major champion has been given a 2.37 pm BST tee time on Thursday alongside Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele. The American trio will then tee off at 9.25 am BST on Friday.
