Scottie Scheffler Tearfully Celebrates Olympic Gold Medal With Wife, Infant Son
Golfer Scottie Scheffler has had an incredible year both on and off the links, which continued at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The PGA pro, ranked No. 1 in the world, secured a gold medal for Team USA in individual golf on Sunday, August 4. Scheffler, 28, made a remarkable comeback from four shots behind with a bogey-free final round at Paris’ Le Golf National. His nine-under-par 62 was enough to overtake his closest competitors and win. This victory marks Scheffler’s first time representing Team USA and his seventh tournament win of the year. Overcome with emotion, Scheffler could not hold back tears as he was awarded the gold medal and the national anthem played. He celebrated the win with his wife, Meredith Scudder, and their infant son, Bennett. Scudder wore a USA ballcap, a puffy-sleeved white blouse, and a blue-and-white striped skirt, while Bennett was dressed in a matching gingham onesie and an American flag bonnet.
- Bennett was born during a hectic period for Scheffler. Just days after his birth in May, Scheffler began competing in the PGA Championship. On May 17, Scheffler was arrested while attempting to travel to the championship due to a miscommunication with officers directing traffic around a fatal crash. He faced charges of felony second-degree assault on a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers. These charges were later dismissed after video of the incident was released. Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell stated on May 29 that the evidence did not support moving forward with the prosecution, noting, “Mr. Scheffler’s characterization that this was a ‘big misunderstanding’
