Scottie Scheffler Headlines Hero World Challenge in the Bahama
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler leads the field at the Hero World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods in the Bahamas. The event, which begins on Thursday, marks Scheffler’s return after a nine-week break since playing in the victorious United States Presidents Cup team in September. The 28-year-old world No. 1 will aim to defend his title at Albany, where he triumphed by three shots over Sepp Straka last year. Scheffler had previously finished runner-up in two of the past three editions.
Scheffler enters the tournament on the back of a remarkable 2024 season, which included victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, The Masters, RBC Heritage, Memorial Tournament, and the Travelers Championship. His successes were capped off with an Olympic gold medal for Team USA and his first FedExCup title at the Tour Championship.
The Field at the Hero World Challenge
The tournament boasts a strong field, with eight members of Team USA’s Presidents Cup squad competing. Alongside Scheffler, players like Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, Russell Henley, Sam Burns, Brian Harman, and Keegan Bradley, the 2025 Ryder Cup captain, are in action.
The 20-player field also includes several debutants: Robert MacIntyre and Ludvig Åberg from the Ryder Cup, along with England’s Aaron Rai and France’s Matthieu Pavon, who secured a win in his rookie PGA Tour season. Sungjae Im, Tom Kim, and Jason Day represent the International team, while Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Akshay Bhatia, and Nick Dunlap round out the field, which features 20 of the top 40 players in the world.
Prize Money and Schedule
While the prize money for the Hero World Challenge is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to offer a lucrative payout for the elite players in the field. The event will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from Thursday.
