Rory McIlroy launches online contest to find a caddy for the FedEx St. Jude Championship

Rory McIlroy, the renowned Irish golfer, is set to make waves at the upcoming FedEx St. Jude Championship, the inaugural event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. As McIlroy gears up for the high-stakes playoff series, he has announced a unique opportunity for golf enthusiasts by launching an online entry portal to find a temporary caddie. This caddie will assist McIlroy for nine holes at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, adding an intriguing twist to the event.

 

The BWT Alpine F1 Team has facilitated this caddie search by providing a registration form on their official website. Interested individuals are required to submit their email address, phone number, name, country of residence, and date of birth to enter the competition. The lucky individual chosen will not only serve as McIlroy’s caddie for a portion of the tournament but will also receive additional perks. The winner, along with a guest, will be flown to TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, with all flight tickets and accommodation costs covered by the sponsors, including Alpine. Moreover, the selected caddie and their guest will enjoy hospitality tickets for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, enhancing their overall experience.

 

Rory McIlroy’s search for a temporary caddie comes despite having a regular caddie, Harry Diamond, who has been a steadfast part of his team. McIlroy has not provided any specific reason for this unique caddie search, leaving fans and followers curious about the motivation behind this decision. As it stands, McIlroy is currently ranked third on the FedEx Cup standings, ensuring his participation in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, as only the top 70 players on the FedEx standings qualify for the event.

 

The FedEx St. Jude Championship, beginning on August 15, will feature other top golfers, including Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Patrick Cantlay, and Robert MacIntyre, among others. These players have all secured their spots through their impressive performances throughout the season.

 

Meanwhile, several golfers are still vying for a place in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Their chances hinge on their performances in the 3M Open and the Wyndham Championship, the final two PGA Tour events leading up to the FedEx Cup playoffs. Key players in this race include Luke List (currently ranked 71), Lucas Glover (72), Lee Hodges (72), and Keith Mitchell (76). A strong showing in these events could propel them into the top 70 and secure their place in the playoff series.

 

Turning to Rory McIlroy’s season on the PGA Tour thus far, it has been a mix of solid performances and near-misses. McIlroy began the 2024 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he finished tied for 66th place. His subsequent performances at the Genesis Invitational and the Cognizant Classic saw him finish 24th and 21st, respectively. He continued his season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, ending tied for 21st place.

McIlroy’s quest for Major glory continued at the US Open, where he narrowly missed out on the title, finishing just one shot behind Bryson DeChambeau. His performances at the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship were notable, with McIlroy finishing tied for 4th at the Genesis Scottish Open. However, his campaign at The Open Championship ended disappointingly as he missed the cut.
