Report: Woods and Nicklaus Involved in Controversial State plan to…….
A recent NBC News report reveals that Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus were linked to a contentious proposal to build three golf courses at Jonathan Dickinson State Park.
According to Eugene Stearns, Nicklaus’ attorney, one of the courses was planned to be designed by Nicklaus himself. Stearns emphasized that Nicklaus intended to offer his design services pro bono, framing it as a “charitable issue.” However, he could not provide details regarding Woods’ involvement, and Woods’ representatives did not respond to inquiries from WFLX.
Both Woods and Nicklaus reside in the area, with Woods living in Jupiter Island and Nicklaus in North Palm Beach.
The proposal faced significant opposition from the community and lawmakers across political lines. Governor Ron DeSantis publicly criticized the plan, describing it as “half-baked” and “not ready for prime time.” He also clarified that some of the backlash stemmed from misconceptions about the state’s Great Outdoors Initiative, which involves nine state parks, and was not approved by him.
In response to the widespread protests and criticism, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced on Thursday that they are withdrawing all proposed amendments related to state parks.
