Rafael Nadal took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with Carlos Alcaraz after the young Spaniard’s remarkable victory in the Wimbledon final. The match, which pitted the 21-year-old Alcaraz against the seasoned Novak Djokovic, culminated in an impressive 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win for Alcaraz.

 

The legendary Nadal, holder of 22 Grand Slam titles, was quick to extend his congratulations via social media. His Instagram post featured a snapshot of his television screen showing Alcaraz celebrating his triumph. Alongside the image, Nadal wrote “Congratulations Carlos,” accompanied by a Spanish flag and four trophy emojis, symbolizing Alcaraz’s growing collection of Grand Slam victories. Alcaraz now boasts two Wimbledon titles, in addition to his Australian and US Open wins.

 

In his message, Nadal expressed his admiration, saying, “What a great moment, another one,” before signing off with “Big Hug!!!!” The post quickly garnered nearly 600,000 likes from Nadal’s followers.

 

Nadal, who withdrew from Wimbledon due to fitness issues and is rumored to retire by the end of 2024, has already seen discussions shift towards whether Alcaraz might surpass his career achievements. While Nadal remains the only Spaniard with more Slam titles than Alcaraz, the younger star is rapidly closing in, having already made history as the youngest player to win major titles on three different surfaces.

 

During the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz delivered a performance that even Nadal would have been proud of, maintaining his serve throughout the first two sets and appearing poised for a straightforward victory. However, Djokovic mounted a fierce challenge, saving three match points and pushing the third set to a tie-break. Alcaraz, showing remarkable composure, ultimately secured the win.

 

Nadal wasn’t the only tennis luminary to praise Alcaraz. Nick Kyrgios, commenting on the final for the BBC, acknowledged the potential shift in tennis hierarchy, posting on X, “Wow. Love Djokovic, but is this maybe the first time we can say the ‘changing of the guard’?!”

 

Alcaraz himself shared his joy on social media, posting a picture of him lifting the Wimbledon trophy with the caption “We’re still dreaming,” along with a video of the winning moment.
