“Police Officer Linked to Scottie Scheffler’s May Arrest Charged with Shocking Theft and Misconduct!”
A Louisville police officer involved in the May arrest of professional golfer Scottie Scheffler has been arrested.
WAVE-TV in Louisville reported Friday that Javar Downs is accused of pocketing $4,000 that he seized from a suspect during a traffic stop on Taylor Boulevard on Wednesday.
He has been charged with theft and official misconduct charges.
Downs was one of the officers who didn’t turn on their bodycam during the early-morning encounter with Scheffler at Valhalla Golf Club where the PGA Championship was being played.
The Louisville Metro Police Department confirmed his arrest and said in a statement he has been placed on emergency suspension and that the process has begun to terminate his employment.
“Allegations of officer malfeasance are taken very seriously. LMPD prioritizes accountability and remains committed to conducting thorough and expedient investigations in the best interests of all parties involved,” Interim Chief Paul Humphrey said in a statement.”
Downs was allegedly searching a man and found an envelope of about $10,000.
According to the TV station, Downs took about $4,000 of that cash and submitted the rest to evidence
