Novak Djokovic has confirmed that the 2025 Brisbane International will be the first tournament of his season, marking the start of his highly anticipated partnership with new coach Andy Murray. The Serbian tennis icon, who is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January, revealed last month that Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, would be joining his team. Fans are eagerly awaiting Djokovic’s debut under Murray’s coaching at the Brisbane event, which runs from December 29th to January 5th.

 

Held at the renowned Pat Rafter Arena, the tournament will also feature Australian star Nick Kyrgios returning to action, with Aryna Sabalenka headlining the women’s draw. As a 10-time Australian Open champion, Djokovic is expected to showcase his collaboration with Murray as he prepares to pursue an 11th title at Melbourne Park.

 

Djokovic’s Decision to Start in Brisbane

Discussing his decision, Djokovic expressed his excitement about returning to Brisbane and kicking off his Australian campaign in style. “I’m excited to start my Australian swing at the Brisbane International and compete once again at Pat Rafter Arena,” Djokovic said. “I’m looking forward to the incredible support from the Australian fans and making this tournament one to remember.”

 

Choosing Brisbane is a strategic move for Djokovic, who values having a competitive buildup to the Australian Open. The 37-year-old is determined to begin his season strong as he chases Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

 

A Challenging 2024 and the Road Ahead

Despite being one of the greatest players in tennis history, Djokovic’s 2024 season was less successful. Ranked No. 7 in the world, he failed to add to his Grand Slam tally, with a semifinal loss to eventual champion Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open standing out as one of his key moments. However, Djokovic is now close to a major milestone: his 100th ATP title, a feat accomplished by only two players, Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103).

 

The partnership with Murray adds an intriguing new element to Djokovic’s pursuit of more glory. Murray, who famously lost to Djokovic in four Australian Open finals, will provide unique insights as a former rival.
