MacIntyre’s Homecoming: A Goosebump Moment at the Scottish Open

Bob MacIntyre savoured a goosebump moment as he charged into Scottish Open title contention. The Scottish star was wowed by a special home reception at the stadium sixth hole in North Berwick, where his birdie at the showcase par-three was the highlight of his round. MacIntyre’s impressive 65 was met with an eruption from the crowd, creating a memorable experience for the golfer.

Reflecting on the moment, MacIntyre said, “It was brilliant. I’m trying to stay even keel. It’s difficult at times. I hit a reasonably decent shot, the crowd is going wild and chanting me all the way up to the green. When I holed the putt, it was almost a relief, but also a goosebump moment when the crowd erupted. I said to my caddie Mike walking up the seventh: That’s why I play golf. That’s why I put in the hard work and I try to be myself as much as I can when I’m out there. You almost feel like you’re giving something back when the crowd is going wild. It’s almost like it’s a celebration. When you can do it in front of them, it’s absolutely brilliant.”

MacIntyre also showed grit and class as he navigated the challenging course, particularly digging himself out of deep rough on the back nine. He remarked, “I’m made of stern stuff. I’ve done it all my days. I’m not often on the fairway, so when we’re in the hay, we just give it a swipe.”

Currently, MacIntyre is firmly in the mix, just four shots behind leader Ludvig Aberg. He commented, “Obviously, you want to be in the lead, but I just want to be in the mix come Sunday afternoon and I’m doing the right things to give myself a chance.”
