LOS ANGELES – As LeBron James gears up for his 22nd NBA season, he made it clear that while he’s accomplished everything he set out to do on the basketball court, his love for the game still burns strong. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, a four-time NBA champion and the league’s all-time leading scorer, is entering uncharted territory—playing alongside his son, Bronny James.

 

Fresh off leading Team USA to Olympic gold in Paris this summer, capturing his third Olympic title, LeBron reflected on his legacy during the Lakers’ first day of training camp on Tuesday.

 

“Is there anything left for me to accomplish as a basketball player? No,” LeBron told reporters, his confidence unshaken. “Everything from here on out is extra credit. But I’ll take it because I love what I do.”

 

This season holds special significance for LeBron. At 40, he’s about to fulfill a long-held dream—sharing the court with his 19-year-old son, Bronny, who was selected by the Lakers with the 55th pick in this year’s NBA Draft. The elder James couldn’t hide his excitement after their first practice together.

 

“It’s amazing to see my son out there with me. This is the stuff of dreams,” LeBron said, reflecting on the moment.

 

Bronny’s arrival isn’t the only fresh start for the Lakers. First-time head coach JJ Redick is at the helm, but LeBron, a seasoned leader, reassured everyone that he’ll be an invaluable presence on the court, essentially becoming a coach in sneakers.

 

“I’m an extension of the coaching staff out there,” LeBron said. “I lead by example, and my voice is commanding. When I speak, people listen.”

 

After a disappointing first-round playoff exit last season against the Denver Nuggets, LeBron stressed the importance of refining the team’s defense, particularly in transition.

 

“We’ve got to hold each other accountable and push ourselves to be better,” he emphasized when asked about the Lakers’ goal of becoming a top-five defensive team. “We need to demand more from each other, and that starts with me.”

 

The Lakers will open their regular season at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 17, with fans eagerly anticipating the beginning of a new chapter for the James family and the team.
