Keegan Bradley Makes His First Move as Ryder Cup Captain

Keegan Bradley, the newly appointed captain of Team USA for the 2025 Ryder Cup, has made his first major decision by naming Webb Simpson as his first vice-captain. This move marks the beginning of Bradley’s preparations for the tournament, which will take place at Bethpage Black in New York next September.

 

Simpson’s Experience and Expertise

Simpson, a 2012 U.S. Open champion, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played in three Ryder Cups as a competitor. Although he was on the losing side in 2012, 2014, and 2018, Simpson’s 4-4-1 record in the competition demonstrates his ability to perform under pressure. Bradley praised Simpson’s selection, saying, “Webb is someone who I have long admired and respected as a competitor and friend. He possesses a wealth of team golf experience and knows what it takes to win.”

Simpson’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by Bradley to assemble a strong leadership team. Tiger Woods’ Role Still Uncertain

While Simpson’s appointment is a significant move, the question of Tiger Woods’ involvement in the Ryder Cup remains unanswered. Woods, who was approached to captain Team USA, rejected the opportunity due to his commitments to the PGA Tour and his role in negotiations with the LIV Golf-funding Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. However, there is still a possibility that Woods could be involved in the tournament in some capacity, with additional vice-captains to be announced at a later date.

Team Europe’s Preparations

Meanwhile, Team Europe captain Luke Donald has named Edoardo Molinari as his first vice-captain, marking a return appointment from their 2023 triumph.
