Joshua Plans September Comeback, Eyes Rivalry with Oleksandr Usyk
Anthony Joshua has announced his comeback to the boxing ring, aiming to reclaim his status as a three-time world champion, according to Punch Sports Extra.
The British-Nigerian boxer is currently riding a four-fight winning streak after suffering consecutive defeats and failing to regain his belts against Oleksandr Usyk.
Over the past year, Joshua has secured four victories, three of which were by knockout against Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou.
During an appearance on the Jonathon Ross show, Joshua revealed his plans to return to action around September, though he had hoped for a June comeback. He mentioned enjoying some leisure time before diving back into training camp in two months.
When asked about a potential showdown with Tyson Fury, Joshua acknowledged Fury as a rival he aims to compete with someday, storing every word Fury says as motivation for their eventual bout.
Reflecting on his recent victory over Ngannou, Joshua admitted he had prepared for a tough 10-round fight but secured a second-round knockout sooner than expected. Despite not always getting along with opponents, Joshua expressed respect for Ngannou and offered encouragement for his future in the sport.
As the boxing world anticipates the undisputed contest between Usyk and Fury on May 18, Joshua undoubtedly eyes a potential matchup with the winner, positioning himself as the top contender for the WBC title.
