Tyson Fury, a former two-time world champion, has conquered every major heavyweight belt during his 16-year professional career. With such an illustrious track record, few are better positioned to predict the future stars of the division.

 

Despite his numerous achievements, Fury’s career lacks the undisputed crown, which he narrowly missed after his first defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in May. The rematch between Fury and Usyk is set for December, offering Fury a chance to reclaim his standing. However, with Fury at 35 and Usyk at 37, fans are eager to see who will rise to fill the impending void.

 

In anticipation of the undisputed clash, Fury took to social media to spotlight one of his sparring partners, dubbing him the “future of the heavyweight division” – 19-year-old Moses Itauma.

 

“Moses Itauma is the future of the heavyweight division 100%,” declared Fury.

 

Itauma, who turned professional only last year, has already secured 9 victories, 7 of which were knockouts. The young Brit’s ambition is undeniable. In an interview with The Mirror, Itauma expressed his desire to break Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest heavyweight champion at just 20 years and 145 days.

 

“I want to become the youngest heavyweight world champion since Mike Tyson, who was 20-years-old,” Itauma said. “I need to take small steps but also ensure that I step up the tasks very quickly. I want to do short steps but not too much with them. Becoming the youngest ever world heavyweight champion is a mid-term goal, but it is something I believe I can achieve before 2025. It is not what I am thinking about right this second, but I want to let that come once I have grown as a professional. I have gone from not having any press at all to this, and it is crazy.”

 

With less than a year left to surpass ‘Iron’ Mike’s record, the odds may be against Itauma, but he could still fulfill Fury’s bold prediction and emerge as the next great heavyweight champion.
