Tiger Woods Opens Up About Daughter’s Negative View of Golf Due to His Absences

Tiger Woods, renowned as one of the greatest golfers of all time, has recently shared a deeply personal and touching insight into his relationship with his teenage daughter, Sam. During an appearance on the “Today” show, Woods, who boasts an impressive record with 15 major championships to his name, revealed that his daughter’s perception of golf is far from the adoration he holds for the sport. Instead, golf carries a painful memory for Sam, which stems from the time Woods spent away from home due to his rigorous professional schedule.

Woods, who is now 48 years old, was candid about how his demanding career impacted his family life, particularly his relationship with his daughter Sam, who is now 16. The golfer explained that during Sam’s formative years, his frequent travels for tournaments and other golf-related commitments led to a significant emotional distance between them. He described how his career, which demanded considerable time away from home, inadvertently affected Sam’s view of golf, associating it with the absence of her father.

In his interview with Carson Daly on the “Today” show, Woods was asked whether Sam has shown any interest in following in his footsteps and taking up the sport herself. His response was a clear and emphatic “No, no, no.” He elaborated on this, noting that Sam harbors what he described as a “negative connotation” towards golf, primarily due to the way it affected their family dynamic during her younger years. Woods reflected on how his extensive travels for golf meant he was often away from home for weeks at a time, which understandably had a significant emotional impact on Sam.

Woods explained that the sport, while pivotal to his identity and career, represented a period of absence and separation for his daughter. The frequent and prolonged separations from her father led to a sense of resentment or negativity associated with golf in Sam’s mind. This has resulted in her lack of interest in pursuing golf or being involved in it in any capacity.

Acknowledging the emotional toll of his career on his family, Woods revealed that he and Sam have worked to develop their relationship outside of the realm of golf. They have focused on building a connection through activities and interests that do not involve the sport. This effort to create a space for their bond that is independent of golf underscores Woods’ commitment to his family and his desire to repair and nurture his relationship with his daughter.

Tiger Woods’ revelation highlights the often-unseen personal sacrifices that professional athletes make in pursuit of their careers. While his achievements on the golf course are well-documented and celebrated, the personal cost and impact on his family dynamics offer a more nuanced perspective on the life of a sports superstar. Despite the global accolades and recognition, the emotional and relational sacrifices are significant, and Woods’ candid sharing of these aspects provides a window into the complexities of balancing a high-profile career with family life.

Miles Russell Eliminated from U.S. Junior Amateur; Tyler Watts and Trevor Gutschewski to Face Off in Final

Miles Russell’s impressive journey in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship came to a dramatic end on Friday as he was eliminated after an intense match that stretched to the final hole. Russell, a 15-year-old golfer from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who holds the top spot in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rankings, faced a tough challenge in his quarterfinal match at the historic Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Russell, despite his considerable talent and recent success, found himself three holes down to Jay Leng of San Diego with only seven holes remaining. Leng, who will soon be starting his college golf career at Stanford, demonstrated resilience and skill throughout the match. Russell managed to mount a formidable comeback by securing victories on the 12th and 15th holes with pars. However, Leng matched Russell’s performance over the final three holes, ensuring his advancement to the semifinals.

In the semifinal round, Leng went up against Tyler Watts from Huntsville, Alabama. Watts, who entered the match play portion of the tournament as the No. 2 seed, continued his strong performance by defeating Leng with a score of 3 and 2. This victory secured Watts a place in the final match.

The other semifinal match saw Trevor Gutschewski from Omaha, Nebraska, competing against Xihuan Chang from China. Gutschewski, who had previously ousted stroke-play medalist Brian Blades in the second round, continued his successful run by winning his semifinal match against Chang with a score of 2 and 1. Gutschewski, a No. 33 seed, is the son of PGA Tour veteran Scott Gutschewski and will be attending the University of Florida this fall. Meanwhile, his father is currently competing at the 3M Open.

The championship final is scheduled for Saturday morning at 8 a.m. ET. The final will consist of 36 holes, with live coverage of the second 18 holes available on Peacock.

Miles Russell was the last Floridian standing in the tournament, making it to the third round and facing a series of challenging opponents. Notably, he competed against players who will be transitioning to college golf within the next month, including Leng (Stanford), CJ Winchenbaugh (Georgetown), and Billy Davis (Auburn). Despite the high level of competition, Russell’s performance throughout the tournament highlighted his significant potential and skill in the sport.

  • Scottie schefller forced to skip Olympics opening ceremony as he issues statement

Scottie schefller forced to skip Olympics opening ceremony as he issues statement

Scottie Scheffler, the current World Golf Ranking (OWGR) number one, has had an exceptional season so far, with six tournament victories including his second major win. This stellar performance has not only secured him a prominent spot in golf but has also made him eligible for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This marks a significant milestone for Scheffler, as it will be his first time competing in the Olympics. The question now arises whether Scheffler will be attending the opening ceremony of the Games.

It seems highly probable that Scheffler will indeed participate in the opening ceremony. According to recent updates from Scheffler Scoop, the golfer has already arrived in Paris. The latest post on X, previously known as Twitter, from Scheffler Scoop reads: “Scottie Scheffler has arrived in Paris!!! #olympics #teamusa #golf #Paris2024.” This arrival on the very day of the opening ceremony strongly suggests that Scheffler will be present at this grand event.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics is set to be an extraordinary spectacle. Unlike traditional ceremonies held at stationary venues, this year’s event will feature a dynamic procession. The ceremony will start at the Austerlitz Bridge and will travel approximately 4 miles down the River Seine, passing some of Paris’s most iconic landmarks such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum. Athletes, including Scheffler, will arrive via boat and cruise down the river, providing a unique and picturesque setting for the event.

Although the golf competitions are scheduled to commence on August 1st, Scheffler’s presence in Paris on the day of the opening ceremony indicates his participation in the event. The opening ceremony is often seen as a key highlight and a significant part of the Olympic experience, and Scheffler’s attendance would align with the excitement and honor of representing one’s country on such a global stage.

For Scheffler, participating in the Paris Olympics holds a special significance beyond just competing in a golf tournament. The Olympics are a symbol of patriotic pride, and Scheffler has expressed how thrilled he is about the prospect of representing the United States on this esteemed platform. In an interview with Team USA, he shared his enthusiasm: “Playing for your country is always extremely exciting, and it will be pretty surreal doing it on the Olympic stage.”

Moreover, Scheffler views the Olympics as a chance to assert the credibility of golf as a legitimate sport. He has faced criticism from some who question the athletic nature of golf, and he sees this opportunity as a way to address those criticisms. Reflecting on this aspect, Scheffler remarked, “It’s also good bragging rights for people that tell me golf is not a sport—I can say it’s an Olympic sport.”

Scheffler has also shared his perspective on the structure of the golf tournament at the Olympics. He views it as more of an individual competition rather than a team event. He noted, “I think with the format of it, it’s more of an individual tournament because there’s no real team aspect.” Despite this, he plans to approach the Olympic tournament with the same seriousness and strategy as he would any other tournament. In an interview with The Dallas Morning News, he stated, “But as far as going over there and playing, I would approach it the same way I would a tournament here.”

With Scheffler and fellow American golfer Xander Schauffele representing the United States, there is considerable optimism about the potential for the U.S. team to excel in the golf events. This strong lineup could increase the chances of the U.S. securing a golf medal once again.

In summary, Scottie Scheffler’s participation in the 2024 Olympic Games is highly anticipated, and his presence at the opening ceremony would be a significant moment in his career. As he prepares for his debut on this global stage, his excitement and commitment reflect the broader enthusiasm surrounding the Olympics and the sport of golf.

  • Carlos Alcaraz forced to skip Olympics opening ceremony as he issues statement

Carlos Alcaraz forced to skip Olympics opening ceremony as he issues statement

Carlos Alcaraz has announced that he will not be attending the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris tonight. The Spanish tennis star, who has become a prominent figure in the sport with his impressive achievements, had originally planned to be present at the event. However, Alcaraz will now be watching the festivities from a distance due to his demanding schedule.

The four-time Grand Slam champion is set to face Hady Habib in the singles event, with their first-round match scheduled to take place during the daytime session at Roland Garros. This high-profile clash will be a significant test for Alcaraz as he aims to make a strong start in the singles competition. However, his schedule will be extremely tight, with no time for extended rest or recovery.

Following his singles match, Alcaraz will have to quickly shift focus to the doubles competition. He will be teaming up with Rafael Nadal, widely regarded as the “King of Clay,” in what has been dubbed the ‘Nadalcaraz’ pairing. Together, they will be striving for gold in the doubles event, beginning their campaign against the Argentine duo of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. The combination of Alcaraz and Nadal is anticipated to be a formidable force on the court, given their individual accolades and their synergy as a team.

Nevertheless, there is a cloud of uncertainty surrounding Nadal’s participation due to a recent injury concern. Reports indicate that Nadal had to cancel a practice session in Paris on Thursday because of a thigh issue. The extent of the injury remains unclear, but given Nadal’s age—he is 38 and approaching the end of a remarkable career—any injury could have serious implications for both his own chances and those of the Alcaraz-Nadal doubles team.

Carlos Moya, Nadal’s coach, addressed the situation in a recent interview with Radioestadio Noche. Moya explained that Nadal had experienced a setback, prompting the decision to allow him a day of rest rather than training. “We are giving ourselves 48 hours to assess the situation,” Moya stated. “The Nadal-Alcaraz doubles partnership is something truly exciting, and we hope Rafa can recover in time.”

This Olympic Games could very well mark Nadal’s final appearance at the event, adding extra significance to his participation. In addition to competing in the doubles, Nadal is also taking part in the singles event, giving him two opportunities to secure a coveted gold medal and further enhance his illustrious career.

Nadal is not the only tennis player with aspirations for Olympic glory in Paris. Novak Djokovic, another top player, is also vying for a gold medal. Djokovic is competing exclusively in the singles event and will begin his quest with a match against Australian player Matthew Ebden tomorrow afternoon. Djokovic’s pursuit of Olympic gold has been a significant goal for him, adding to the high stakes of the tournament.

As the Olympic Games unfold, tennis fans will be eagerly watching to see how both Alcaraz and Nadal perform, as well as how Djokovic fares in his pursuit of gold. With such high-caliber players involved, the tennis events in Paris are poised to be a major highlight of the Games.

  • After Open struggles, Bryson DeChambeau says he’ll change approach to links golf

After Open struggles, Bryson DeChambeau says he’ll change approach to links golf

Bryson DeChambeau’s Major Championship Journey: A Tale of Triumph and Trials

In the world of professional golf, few seasons have been as compelling as Bryson DeChambeau’s performance through the year’s first three major championships. DeChambeau demonstrated a blend of power, precision, and strategic brilliance that had him atop the leaderboard and the center of attention. His notable achievements included a tie for sixth at the Masters, a second-place finish at the PGA Championship, and a victory at the U.S. Open. The triumph at the U.S. Open was particularly remarkable, featuring a dramatic finish at Pinehurst No. 2 where he executed a legendary up-and-down from the front bunker on the 18th hole to narrowly edge out Rory McIlroy by a single stroke.

These impressive results positioned DeChambeau as the most successful golfer in the majors up to that point. The golf world watched with bated breath as he had the opportunity to craft a historically significant major season. However, DeChambeau’s quest for a historic year encountered a setback when he arrived at Royal Troon for the Open Championship. His performance was far from stellar: he shot a disheartening six-over par 42 on the front nine and ultimately missed the cut after rounds of 76 and 75.

This was not the first time DeChambeau faced challenges in overseas tournaments. Despite his impressive record with three top-four finishes at the PGA Championship and two U.S. Open victories, his performances at the Open Championship had been inconsistent. In seven starts, he had missed three cuts and recorded just one top-30 finish.

Ahead of LIV Golf’s UK event, DeChambeau was candid about his struggles at the Open Championship. In a rare display of vulnerability, he openly acknowledged his difficulties with the unique demands of links golf. “I’m going to try and keep this as quick as possible,” DeChambeau began. “For me, I learned a lot more than I had in the other three majors. Playing more of American-style golf, even at Augusta, I’ve played there enough and I know how to play those types of golf courses, for the most part. Always can get better in small areas. But the Open Championship has always been kind of a different one for me.”

DeChambeau elaborated on the challenges he faces in the Open Championship, particularly under adverse weather conditions. “I have played well in sunny, dry, normal conditions there, but when it gets really wet and windy and nasty, I’ve always struggled.” This admission was significant; it reflected DeChambeau’s acceptance of his limitations and his willingness to confront and overcome them.

Despite his difficulties, DeChambeau found a glimmer of progress during the Open Championship. “Last week, I felt like I broke the seal a bit in that second round,” he noted. “Even though I didn’t play that great, I felt like I could control the golf ball for the first time in those types of conditions, and that was a huge moment for me to go, okay, I think I can do this if I just work a little bit harder leading into this tournament in these conditions.”

He emphasized the importance of preparation for future tournaments, especially under challenging conditions. “I think prep work next year is going to be a big thing for me going into the Open.” DeChambeau’s approach has always been unconventional, favoring a consistent shot shape and technique over adapting to varying conditions. However, he recognizes that links golf requires adaptability.

“My oversimplified approach is that I try to hit the same shot shape every single time; I’d rather be the master of one than try to dial up something new depending on the situation,” he explained. “I make some adjustments, of course — watch the Warming Up video below to get a better sense of how I think through this stuff — but I prefer to hit a high draw whenever I can. That works better in soft conditions and mild winds than in the firm, gusty conditions of the U.K.”

DeChambeau’s strategy involves controlling the wind and adapting his shot shapes to the conditions. “If I can focus on figuring out how to get the wind down and making sure, if it’s a right-to-left wind, not hitting a draw in a 30-mile-an-hour right-to-left wind where it’s going to go 70 yards left,” he said. “Working on controlling shots, flighting shots, wedge shots, and working in windy conditions on putting greens, I feel like I’m going to give myself a decent chance.”

This realization reflects a broader evolution in DeChambeau’s approach to the game. While his unorthodox methods have brought him considerable success, he acknowledges the need to embrace conventional wisdom and adapt to the unique challenges of links golf. It represents a significant development in his career: the willingness to adapt and evolve his game in response to new challenges.

DeChambeau’s growth extends beyond his game; it includes his perspective on mistakes and learning. Reflecting on past regrets, he shared, “The thing I struggle with, when someone says ‘I regret this, I regret that,’ it’s like, wait, did you learn from it? And if you didn’t learn from it, then yeah, sure, you can regret it. But if you’ve learned from the regretful moment, that is so valuable to your life. I don’t regret much. What I do know is I’ve learned from a lot of my mistakes.”

Amidst his reflections on his own game, DeChambeau also offered praise for his peer, Xander Schauffele, who had an outstanding year. Schauffele’s achievements included a tie for eighth at the Masters, a victory at the PGA Championship, a tie for seventh at the U.S. Open, and a decisive win at the Open Championship. “Playing junior golf with Xander, playing collegiate golf with him, he’s always been a superstar,” DeChambeau remarked. “I’ve looked at him like, ‘Man, if I can beat him, that’s really good.’ He’s going to be great for a long time. Seeing his career develop and become better over the course of time has been awesome, and for him to win two this year, it’s a groundbreaking year for him.”

DeChambeau acknowledged Schauffele’s ability to navigate the inherent unpredictability of the Open Championship. “You always have to have luck on your side in certain conditions, but playing really steady golf like Xander did showed that it doesn’t matter; you can win with just a consistent good game,” he said. “He obviously conquered that challenge, and one that I’m looking forward to next year.”

Paul Casey, seated alongside DeChambeau, couldn’t resist a playful jab. “By the way, that was such a dumbed-down answer,” Casey quipped. “Because the one you gave us yesterday was about 15 minutes long and involved spin axis and geometry of golf balls and contact and…”

DeChambeau’s approach to links golf, characterized by his blend of traditional and unconventional methods, is a work in progress. His journey reflects a broader narrative of adaptation and growth, showcasing his commitment to overcoming challenges and evolving as a golfer.

  • Keegan Bradley offered new role to ‘help him’ for 2025 Ryder Cup

Keegan Bradley offered new role to ‘help him’ for 2025 Ryder Cup

Keegan Bradley, a prominent American golfer, finds himself in the spotlight as he embarks on a significant new chapter in his career. At 38 years old, Bradley has been appointed as the new captain of the US Ryder Cup team, a role he will assume after the team’s disappointing performance at Marco Simone in October. This leadership position represents a critical and prestigious opportunity for Bradley, who now faces the task of revitalizing the team’s fortunes.

In addition to his upcoming Ryder Cup responsibilities, Bradley has been presented with another influential role that will assist him in preparing for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. Jim Furyk, the captain of the US Presidents Cup team, has extended an invitation to Bradley to serve as an assistant captain at the upcoming Presidents Cup, which will be held at Royal Melbourne in September. This prestigious event will see Team USA going head-to-head against Team International in what will be the 15th edition of the Presidents Cup, with the Americans aiming to secure their tenth consecutive victory.

Furyk, a former professional golfer and captain of the 2018 US Ryder Cup team, expressed his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on SiriusXM PGA Tour radio. He indicated that he had always intended to keep a spot open for the future Ryder Cup captain, whether that individual was Tiger Woods or now Keegan Bradley. Furyk has already been in touch with Bradley or has at least planned to extend the offer, highlighting the value of this experience for Bradley. He emphasized that being part of the captaincy team and engaging in strategic discussions with other captains would offer Bradley a unique perspective that differs significantly from the experience of playing on the course.

Despite the excitement surrounding his new role, there is a degree of concern that Bradley might still be vying for a spot on the team he will eventually captain. Furyk acknowledged that Bradley’s current form and world golf ranking suggest he is in strong contention to make the team. However, Furyk believes that participating as an assistant captain, alongside notable figures like Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, and Kevin Kisner, would not only enhance Bradley’s experience but also serve as a valuable preparatory step for his upcoming Ryder Cup captaincy.

Bradley’s career has been marked by significant achievements, including his triumph at the 2003 US Open. As he prepares for his role in the 2025 Ryder Cup, he has already made strategic moves to set the stage for success. Bradley has announced that Webb Simpson will be his first vice-captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, a decision that reflects his proactive approach to building a strong team.

At the 3M Open in Minnesota, where Bradley was participating, he confirmed that he had engaged in discussions with Tiger Woods during The Open. Bradley expressed his intention to connect with former Ryder Cup captains once the current season concludes. His plan involves seeking insights from past captains about their successful strategies and areas for improvement. He also mentioned that he has invited Tiger Woods to be as involved as he wishes in the upcoming Ryder Cup preparations, underscoring the importance of drawing on the expertise of experienced figures in the sport.

As Bradley navigates these dual roles, he is set to make significant contributions both as a player and as a leader in the golfing world. His involvement in the Presidents Cup as an assistant captain will provide him with valuable experience and insights, while his strategic planning for the Ryder Cup demonstrates his commitment to ensuring a successful campaign for Team USA. With his dedication and leadership, Bradley is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of American golf.

Phil Mickelson shows true colours with message to Open winner Xander Schauffele

Phil Mickelson Extends Heartfelt Congratulations to Open Champion Xander Schauffele After Impressive Victory

Phil Mickelson, a seasoned veteran of the golf world, recently took to social media to extend his heartfelt congratulations to Xander Schauffele following the latter’s remarkable victory at the Open Championship. Schauffele’s stellar performance at Royal Troon on Sunday, where he shot a flawless six-under 65 in the final round, earned him the Claret Jug and marked his second major championship of the year. His victory came after a gripping contest in which he narrowly edged out fellow competitors Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, securing his place in golf history alongside Jack Nicklaus as one of the few players to win multiple major titles with final rounds of 65 or lower.

In the wake of Schauffele’s impressive achievement, Mickelson took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his admiration for the new Champion Golfer of the Year. In a message brimming with praise, Mickelson wrote: “What an incredible performance by @XSchauffele. A final round 65 with -4 on the difficult back 9 to win The Open and become CGOTY is simply amazing. Congratulations, what a year, keep it up in Paris too!” Mickelson’s message reflects the respect and camaraderie that exists among the elite players in the world of golf, highlighting the significance of Schauffele’s achievement in the context of the sport.

Justin Rose, who finished tied for second place alongside Billy Horschel, also took a moment to acknowledge Schauffele’s accomplishment. Rose wrote on social media: “Congrats Xander… A two-time major champ and deservedly so.” This message of congratulations further underscores the high regard in which Schauffele’s performance is held by his peers in the golf community.

In a press conference following his victory, Schauffele, with the Claret Jug proudly by his side, took the opportunity to reflect on his journey and express his gratitude. Schauffele revealed that he had drawn inspiration from Mickelson’s epic duel with Henrik Stenson during the 2016 Open Championship. The American golfer admitted that he had watched highlights of that memorable clash to get himself into the right mindset for the tournament. “I feel very honoured. Hearing your name called with ‘Open champion’ afterwards is something I’ve dreamt of for a very long time,” Schauffele said. “I watched the highlights of Phil [Mickelson] and Henrik [Stenson] in 2016 to motivate myself. I guess that paid off pretty nicely!”

Schauffele went on to discuss the mental and emotional challenges he faced throughout the tournament. He spoke about the calmness that helped him navigate the high-pressure moments during the final round, attributing his composure to the experience of his previous major win. “There’s calmness and super stressful moments when you’re trying to win a major championship,” Schauffele explained. “I felt them in the past—the ones I didn’t win—and I let them get to me. Today, I felt like I did a pretty good job of weathering the storm when I needed to.”

Reflecting on the difficulty of the back nine on Sunday, Schauffele noted that it was one of the most challenging stretches he had ever faced in a tournament. “It was hard. It was very difficult,” he admitted. “I think winning the first one helped me a lot today on the back nine. I had some feeling of calmness come through. It was very helpful on what has been one of the hardest back nines I’ve ever played in a tournament.”

Schauffele’s victory is particularly significant as it marks his second major title in a single year, a remarkable achievement considering the length of time it took for him to secure his first major win. “I mean, it’s a dream come true to win two majors in one year,” Schauffele said. “It took me forever just to win one, and to have two now is something else.”

In summary, Xander Schauffele’s triumph at the Open Championship not only adds to his growing list of achievements but also highlights the supportive and respectful relationships within the golfing world. Phil Mickelson’s gracious congratulations and Schauffele’s reflection on his journey underscore the significance of this victory and the enduring passion and dedication required to succeed at the highest levels of the sport.

    1. **Iga Świątek**: 21-1

    2. **Danielle Collins**: 16-4

    3. **Aryna Sabalenka**: 15-4

    4. **Mirra Andreeva**: 15-4 (obecnie gra w finale w Iasi)

    5. **Magda Linette**: 14-6 (obecnie gra w finale w Pradze)

    1. **Sebastian Baez**: 24-10

    2. **Casper Ruud**: 21-6

    3. **Alexander Zverev**: 20-5

    4. **Luciano Darderi**: 20-10

    5. **Stefanos Tsitsipas**: 19-5
