Frank Warren has dismissed the possibility of a Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fight happening this year, contradicting claims made by rival promoter Eddie Hearn.

Hearn, the CEO of Matchroom Boxing, remains optimistic about Joshua’s chances to become a three-time world champion by facing the winner of Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk. The bout for the undisputed heavyweight title is scheduled for May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian Minister for Entertainment Turki Alalshikh has expressed a keen interest in hosting major boxing matchups, fueling Hearn’s hopes for a deal involving Joshua against either Fury or Usyk. However, Fury and Usyk have already committed to a two-fight agreement.

Warren, who represents Fury, firmly stated that a showdown between Fury and Joshua in 2024 is out of the question. In an interview with talkSPORT, Warren emphasized the straightforward nature of the situation: the loser of the Fury-Usyk fight will likely exercise their right to a rematch due to the substantial financial stakes involved. Warren indicated that a potential Fury-Joshua clash could happen after both fighters fulfill their respective obligations, provided Fury wins both fights and Joshua maintains his winning streak.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Fury vs. Joshua, Joshua appears poised for a shot at the IF heavyweight world title later this year against the top-ranked contender, Filip Hrgovic. The organization has confirmed that Fury or Usyk will be stripped of the title if they opt for a rematch after their initial bout. Joshua, 33, has experienced a career resurgence in recent years, securing four consecutive victories, including a dominant two-round victory over former UFC star Francis Ngannou last month.

However, Joshua has hinted at a potential retirement in 2026. Speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show, Joshua mentioned his intention to retire around the age of 35, stating his willingness to transition into business ventures not reliant on his active participation in boxing.
