Tiger Woods to withdraw from Masters due to ongoing issues
Tiger Woods entered the opening round of the Masters having played just 24 holes this year, a testament to his resilience after a near-fatal car crash in 2021. With 15 major wins under his belt, Woods embarked on a grueling challenge, set to tackle nearly as many holes in a single day as he aimed for a record 24th consecutive cut at the Masters.
Starting off solidly, albeit unspectacularly, Woods managed to scrap his way to one-under par through 13 holes before play was halted due to darkness. Despite facing a battered body, including recovery from ankle surgery last year, Woods remained optimistic, stating that his body was holding up fine and expressing determination to continue.
Facing delays due to storms, Woods finally teed off in the afternoon alongside Max Homa and former world No.1 Jason Day, under sunny and hot conditions. His round began auspiciously with a birdie at the first hole, a feat he had achieved only once before, back in 1999, though he couldn’t recall the exact instance.
This Masters marked Woods’ first appearance since withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational in February due to flu-like symptoms, and his first major in a year. Despite his recent challenges and setbacks, Woods’ commitment to the sport remained unwavering as he geared up for a demanding day of golf ahead, aiming to maintain his impressive streak at Augusta.
