As the spring break festivities lure in most 15-year-olds, one young golfer is rewriting the rules on the PGA Tour. Meet Miles Russell, the teenage sensation balancing adolescence with professional
golf, smashing records along the way.
In a remarkable feat, Russell recently became the youngest player to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA Tour’s developmental league for underage talent, shattering a record held since 2006 by Gipper Finau.
But that was just the start of his meteoric rise. During his third round at Lakewood National Golf Club’s Commander Course, Russell showcased his prowess with a one-under 70, followed by a stunning five-under 66 in the final round. This stellar performance propelled him to a 20th place finish at 14-under, making him the youngest player since 1983 to crack the Top-25 on either the PGA Tour or the Korn Ferry Tour.
Hailing from Jacksonville Beach, Russell radiated excitement after his breakthrough tournament. “It was an awesome week. I had a blast,” he shared with the PGA Tour. Despite the occasional curious glance at the “little kid on the range,” Russell found overwhelming support from his peers. “Everybody was so nice and so helpful with everything,” he added.
As the top-ranked prospect in the American Junior Golf Association, Russell’s confidence received a significant boost from this weekend’s performance. “When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the better pros,” he said. “But this week I played well, and I think it kind of showed it a little bit. But a good play is always good.”
With each swing, Miles Russell is proving that age is just a number on the golf course. His journey from teenage prodigy to professional contender is one worth following closely.
