Neal Shipley, a Pittsburgh native who showcased his skills at James Madison University and Ohio State, emerged as the Low Amateur at this year’s Masters tournament. Following his impressive performance, Shipley found himself seated in Butler Cabin alongside Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm for an interview with Jim Nantz prior to the trophy presentation. However, viewers couldn’t help but notice Shipley’s nervous demeanor, evident from his series of anxious glances throughout the interview.

Days later, Shipley appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to address the now-infamous interview, acknowledging his nerves and poking fun at himself for the memorable moment. He admitted, “I was so nervous. The last thing I wanted to do was swear on national TV or say something stupid. I also didn’t want to speak out of turn, so I was trying to look at the teleprompter so I knew my cues. Dumba–.”

 

Shipley also took the opportunity to debunk another awkward moment when a reporter inquired about a nonexistent note Tiger Woods supposedly slipped to him during the course of play. Shipley dismissed the theory that he was coached to avoid the question, stating firmly, “It just didn’t happen.”

 

In a light-hearted turn of events, Shipley later discovered a plethora of memes depicting his interview moment, courtesy of his family, who took delight in teasing him about it for hours on end.
