Tyson Fury is gearing up for a pivotal rematch against Oleksandr Usyk later this year, with an opportunity to avenge the sole defeat of his career.

 

The British heavyweight suffered a split decision loss to Usyk in May, a fight where his early success faltered and Usyk capitalized, securing a decisive 10-8 round to close out the bout. This defeat cost Fury his WBC belt, crowning Usyk as the undisputed champion for the second time in his career.

 

As the eagerly anticipated rematch draws near, former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. has expressed his confidence in Usyk’s ability to triumph once again. Speaking to ES News, Ruiz predicted a repeat performance by the Ukrainian star.

 

“I’m going for Usyk. I’m sure he’ll get it,” Ruiz stated.

 

Ruiz, who famously defeated Anthony Joshua for the unified titles—a two-time opponent of Usyk—revealed that he had discussed a potential fight with Usyk in the future.

 

“That’s what I told him in Las Vegas. I said ‘man, it’ll be amazing if me and you fight,’ but he has to fight Tyson Fury in December,” Ruiz shared.

 

The rematch between Fury and Usyk is scheduled for December 21, set to be part of a Riyadh Season show. This event marks the Saudi outfit’s inaugural venture into American territory. Ruiz will also be featured, facing Jarrell Miller on August 3 as part of the undercard for the Terence Crawford-Israil Madrimov fight in Los Angeles.
