Alexis Ohanian and Daughter Olympia Steal the Show at Women-Only Athlos NYC Event

 

Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently melted hearts by sharing an adorable photo of himself with their daughter, Olympia, during a groundbreaking women-only track event, Athlos NYC. Ohanian and Williams, who married in 2017 and welcomed Olympia the same year, celebrated the birth of their second child in 2023. But while Serena has made her mark on the tennis court, Ohanian is carving out his own legacy as a passionate advocate for women in sports.

 

As the co-founder of Reddit, Ohanian has long championed gender equality in sports, often using his platform to call for more investment in women’s athletics. His dedication was evident when he donned a jacket emblazoned with “Invest in Women’s Sports” and tweeted his support. Ohanian’s commitment goes beyond words—he’s also an investor in the NWSL franchise, Angel City FC.

 

His latest venture, Athlos NYC, further cements his commitment. This high-stakes, women-only track competition drew some of the world’s top athletes, including Olympians Gabby Thomas, Faith Kipyegon, Marileidy Paulino, and Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith. With six events and a staggering $60,000 prize for the winner, Athlos NYC set a new standard for women’s track events.

 

Throughout the evening, Ohanian shared glimpses of the excitement on social media, including a heartwarming moment with his daughter, Olympia. But the highlight came after the races when Olympia made a special request: she wanted to run the track herself.

 

“She runs New York,” Ohanian captioned a photo of Olympia on the track. “She had such a great time she asked to run, and I couldn’t say no. We also gifted dozens of New York track kids tickets to the event because they deserve to be part of history. When kids see a professional path, it changes everything.”

 

In a candid conversation with Reuters, Ohanian expressed his belief in the power of women athletes to captivate audiences, saying they consistently draw higher levels of engagement.

 

“You just have to look at the follower counts and fan engagement. Women athletes—especially in track—are simply more compelling,” Ohanian explained.

 

The 41-year-old tech entrepreneur even joked about having a “spidey sense” for identifying passionate fan communities, especially in women’s sports.

 

“I have a ‘spidey sense’ for where there are hyper-engaged fan communities, and women’s sports are full of them,” he said with enthusiasm.

 

Ohanian didn’t stop there. He raised the bar for future events, announcing that he had doubled the prize money for Athlos NYC.

 

“When I asked these women athletes about their top prize for winning a season, they told me $30,000. I said, ‘Great, I’m going to double it for one single race,’” he added, reinforcing his commitment to creating more opportunities for women in sports.

 

While Serena Williams may have retired from tennis after the 2022 US Open, with an astounding 23 Grand Slam titles to her name, her family’s commitment to sports—and especially women’s athletics—shows no signs of slowing down.
